Adding connections to your Flunstellas shape

If you haven't already, make a Flunstellas shape, click here for a how to guide.

Holding the shape in your hand, imagine what specific thought, feeling or emotion it might be. It could be a thought of yours, someone else's or a fictional character.

For example it might be “a memory of seeing an old woman dancing on the bus”

Make a very simple drawing, or write short description of this thought on a small piece of paper and stick it on your Flunstella shape.

Adding Connections

Now we will add connections to the shape that will describe how this Flunstella relates to other Flunstellas.

Think about another Flunstella that this one is connected to somehow, maybe the Flunstella you are holding triggers another idea, emotion or memory, what is it?

For example..
A connection to the memory “She reminded me of my Nan showing off to us kids when we were little.”

or

A connection to the feeling “It made me laugh, but I felt a bit embarrassed too.”

Take a K'nex rod and connect it to a circular connector.

Cut out a paper shape, about the same size as the circular connector and make a drawing or write a few words to describe the other Flunstella, blu tac it onto the circular connector.

Stick the other end of the rod into your Flunstella shape.

Repeat this with more connections.

Keep going until you have a good range of different connections.

Describe the Connection

We can describe the kind of connection that you imagine is going on between these different Flunstellas.

Take the connecting rod out and add another circular connector, then another rod to the end you have just taken out of the Flunstella shape.

There are lots of ways we can describe the kind of connection between two Flunstellas.

We could describe it with words, for example: vivid, slow, emotional, unusual, excited, later on, etc

We could describe it with numbers, for example: Its strength was 6/10

We could describe how the Flunstellas might relate to one another, for example: Avoid, Flock, Spin around.

Keep adding connections and describing the kinds of connections.
